Infant mortality is a key indication of the overall health and effectiveness of a health care system. Indiana is the seventh worst state in terms of infant mortality and has a death rate 20% higher than the national average. Thirty-three counties in Indiana are classified as a "maternity desert" with either no hospital or no OB services. There are many factors to this complex issue; however, by providing access to both prenatal and postnatal care many of these deaths could be preventable. This presentation will identify the strengths of telemedicine and endorse its use in programs that are diligently working to improve Indiana’s state outcomes.
