The number one cause of preventable death and disease in the United States is tobacco use. No matter what your specialty is, you know the drastic effects that tobacco use can have on patients. And yet, 40% of patients are not advised to quit by a healthcare professional (US Surgeon General, 2020). Proactive counseling from quitlines increases the chances of quitting when used alone or together with cessation medication (US Surgeon General, 2020). Therefore, this lunch and learn will provide an overview of the Indiana Tobacco Quitline services and how they can be best utilized by healthcare providers.
