Defining Your Telehealth Strategy

UMTRC 2020 Annual Conference

July 14-15, 2020

South Bend, Indiana

We are back in South Bend again this year - home to St. Mary’s College and Notre Dame.  South Bend is located in north central Indiana and central to the UMTRC states of Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio. Join us for a jam packed couple of days as the UMTRC brings speakers from across the country to help your organization to develop your telehealth strategy. The conference will start off on Tuesday morning with a telehealth 101 session at 9am.  With a total of 3 keynotes, 12 breakouts, and individual state networking sessions, this is a telehealth conference you do not want to miss!

How a Bill Becomes a Law

On Groundhog’s Day, February 2nd, Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow.  So, we are expecting an early spring.  Speaking of spring, things are heating up in the Indiana Legislature.  Indiana has a part-time legislature, and February 3rd was the last day for the 3rd reading of House bills in the house.  February 4th was the last day for Senate bills in the Senate.  If you need a refresher on how a bill becomes a law, checkout this new graphic from the Bowen Center for Health Workforce Research and Policy.  And for a little added humor, there’s always the I’m Just a Bill cartoon from the 1980’s by School House Rock.

NCTRC Annual Report

The UMTRC is a proud member of the National Consortium of Telehealth Resource Centers (NCTRC).  The NCTRC is comprised of the 12 regional telehealth and 2 national Telehealth Resource Centers (TRCs).  We are all federally funded by the  U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Office for the Advancement of Telehealth (OAT) under the Telehealth Resource Center Program, which began in 2006.  While the TRCs have worked collaboratively together for many years, the NCTRC became official in 2017.  Each year, the consortium produces an annual report.  We are pleased to share the 2019 Annual Report with you.

Updated TTAC Website

The National Telehealth Technology Assessment Resource Center is your go-to for all things related to telehealth technology. Their aims is to create better-informed consumers of telehealth technology. By offering a variety of services in the area of technology assessment, TTAC (pronounced “tea-tac”) aims to become the place for answers to questions about selecting appropriate technologies for your telehealth program.  They have recently updated their website and added many new features!

Strategic Choice in Developing Telemedicine –

Observations from Three Organizations

The UMTRC receives many questions about developing telemedicine programs.  How to approach it, how to receive reimbursement for it, and who should champion it.  The Rural Health Research & Policy Centers (RHRC), in collaboration the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) Center for Rural Health Policy Analysis recently released a policy paper that explores the motivation and business considerations behind three large organizations who have incorporated telemedicine.
