SNAP and Medicaid 

New COVID-19 FAQs for State Medicaid and CHIP Agencies Updated May 8, 2020

Due to COVID-19, all SNAP recipients will get the maximum amount for their household size for May. The May amount will be added by May 15. 

If you recently applied for SNAP or Medicaid or received a notice to call us, you do not need to call us or speak to anyone to complete your application. Current SNAP and Medicaid recipients will have their benefits renewed automatically. Recipients will be notified by mail when they need to renew their benefits. No further action is necessary.

State Waiver and Amendment Approvals

  • Section 1115 Waiver Approvals - Section 1115 demonstrations and waiver authorities in section 1915 of the Social Security Act are vehicles states can use to test new or existing ways to deliver and pay for health care services in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). 
  • Section 1915(C) Appendix K Approvals -Emergency Preparedness and Response for Home and Community Based (HCBS) 
  • Medicaid Disaster SPA Approvals - Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for review and approval. States also submit SPAs to request permissible program changes, make corrections, or update their Medicaid or CHIP state plan with new information.
  • CHIP SPA Approvals - CHIPRA creates a broad quality mandate for children's health care and authorizes health care quality initiatives for both the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Medicaid programs.
