New UMTRC Program Director
It is a pleasure to meet you all! My name is Cameron Hilt and I now serve as the new Program Director for the Upper Midwest Telehealth Resource Center. I look forward to connecting with you to answer any telehealth questions you have and continue the work of advancing telehealth in the Midwest. I had the privilege of working closely with Becky over the past year and I’m very thankful for her contributions and the foundation she has laid for the UMTRC over the past 10 years. I wanted to take the time to provide more information about myself so you all can get to know me better.
I currently serve as the Program Director for the UMTRC as well as the Crossroads Partnership for Telehealth which are programs of the Indiana Rural Health Association (IRHA). Crossroads is a program that encompasses two grant programs funded through HRSA that are focused on implementing and developing new telehealth service lines and collecting data to improve the evidence base for telehealth services. The focuses of these two programs are tele-behavioral health and tele-stroke and we work with over 8 rural hospital partners across the state of Indiana. Prior to these positions, I served as a Program/Data Coordinator for the UMTRC and the Community Paramedicine Project at IRHA.
Prior to IRHA, I spent over two years working as a population health consultant. My work was focused on how to utilize data in order to illustrate health impact and cost savings. This is where I got my first exposure to telehealth data and the opportunity it had to improve patient care. We would advise clients to improve engagement in telehealth programs as the data showed that it reduced avoidable emergency department visits, improved compliance with annual physicals/bi-annual mammograms, increased the percentage of individuals who received medical care in the past twelve months, and reduced overall costs of care. This is where my passion for telehealth first started and what eventually lead me to the UMTRC.
I also have held a variety of different positions in the nonprofit and healthcare settings including working with a Community Health Network CMS grant using community health workers to address the social determinants of health, working as a medical biller in home healthcare, working with Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, and working for a non-profit focused on leadership and character development of students on IU Bloomington's campus.
I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology in 2015. In late 2017, I started graduate school part-time while working full-time. In 2021, I graduated with my Master of Public Health degree from IU Fairbanks School of Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy and Management.
I was born and raised in Southern Indiana (Evansville) but I am currently living in Indianapolis, Indiana. I enjoy traveling with my wife Natalia, spending time with my family and two dogs, renovating my home from the 1920s, hiking, fishing, and exercising. I currently serve as a mentor for the IRHA Fellowship program and I am is actively involved in my brother's foundation called the Sean Roy Hilt Foundation as a sponsor, fundraiser, and speaker.
I hope this has helped you get to know me a bit better, thank you for reading, and please continue to check out our UMTRC blogs in the future!
