March 2022 Newsletter

Ready to Connect

As we hope for an early spring here in the Midwest, we have a lot to share with you in our March UMTRC Newsletter. As we start to see some events move to in person, I hope to have the opportunity to meet some of you in person over the course of 2022. If you are attending the Global HIMSS conference this March, I would love the opportunity to connect with you. Please feel free to reach out to me.

In this month’s UMTRC blog post we take a look at resources from Foley and Lardner, the American Hospital Association, and Healthcare Finance and discuss some of the implications of the No Surprises Act has on telehealth providers in the ER.

“The No Surprises Act is accomplishing exactly what it has set out to do, which is to save patients from hefty medical bills following emergency care. However, many healthcare organizations are still grappling with what defines emergency services or when emergency services have been completed for a patient in their care. Gathering patient consent to utilize out-of-network providers can be tricky during emergency situations and time will help us understand its impact on telehealth consults in the ER that often rely on contracted providers.”

A Virtual View podcast series hit a record number of downloads over the last 2 months! Let's keep the momentum going in March. During the month of March, we plan to release two new podcast episodes. One will be focused on Provider Burnout and the other will be centered around the Evolution of Telehealth and Sustainability. Training Partnerships

The UMTRC is pleased to be working with the Ohio State Office of Rural Health and Ohio State Department of Health to provide training workshops in the coming months. We're excited to share our knowledge and aid in the advancement of telehealth accessibility in our region and beyond.

Resources from the UMTRC

Let's focus on telehealth workflow. When do you obtain consent from the patient? How far in advance of the appointment should you send the provider the patient's medical history? Do you schedule a follow up?

The UMTRC has published telehealth workflow guides to help you answer these questions.

A new report from Bloomberg Intelligence predicted that the telehealth sector could bring in $20 billion in U.S. revenue by 2027.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of telehealth by years, providing safe and convenient access to telehealth services," said Duane Wright, senior research analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.
